Former Teacher Fr. Jonah Pollock Offers Mass at HCA

On Friday, November 13, former faculty member Fr. Jonah Pollock, O.P., returned to Holy Cross Academy for the second time since his recent ordination in May, 2009. He offered an afternoon Mass for the students, faculty and guests.
Fr. Jonah taught religion, math, government/economics and physical education from 2001-2003.
In his homily, he offered a brief reflection on the day’s Gospel regarding Jesus’ Second Coming and how Catholics should prepare for it.
“We don’t know when the world will end or when our lives will end,” said Fr. Jonah. “But Jesus tells us what we need to know to be ready. Jesus gives us the knowledge, grace, and the sacraments so that we will be prepared.”
He spoke especially of the Eucharist as the food for our earthly pilgrimage.
The Academy’s Chant Schola led music for the Mass, which included a Gregorian Chant Mass and hymns.
Fr. Jonah’s extraordinary path to the priesthood, which included overcoming brain cancer, was chronicled in the Syracuse Post-Standard.
