History

In 1995, a group of Catholic parents met to discuss the great need in their community for a junior-senior high school built upon the rich heritage of the Catholic Faith.  

They believed that families should have another choice in education for their children, recognizing that home schooling may not be suitable for all, and the public schools may not be meeting families' needs as Catholics.  In the absence of a Diocesan junior-senior high school in the county, Holy Cross Academy was established to fulfill these needs, incorporating in 1996 and opening its doors in 1997.

Holy Cross Church in New London offered a building for the first location of the school, hence its name.   In 2000, needing more space for the rapidly growing enrollment, Holy Cross Academy moved to the St. Joseph Parish Center in Oneida. 

After much prayer, and through the intercession of St. John Bosco and the support of generous donors, Holy Cross Academy purchased its current facilities on Barrington Road in 2002. 

From that time to the present, Holy Cross has experienced near-capacity growth and has initiated a building expansion program to accommodate the many area families who are committed to its mission. 

Holy Cross Academy became a member of the National Association for Catholic* and Independent Schools (NAPC*IS) in 2003.
